The Loula & Evangelos Nomikos Foundation – Supporting the Future of the Cyclades

The Loula & Evangelos Nomikos Foundation is a philanthropic institution created to give back to the people of Santorini and the Cycladic islands. Its roots lie in the passion and generosity of Evangelos Nomikos, a prominent figure in Greek shipping and commerce, and his wife Loula, whose legacy of cultural support and community uplift continues through the Foundation’s work.

Since its inception, the Foundation has focused on four main pillars:

Education

Providing annual scholarships to students from the Cyclades who pursue higher education, both in Greece and abroad.

Public Health

Supporting local clinics, funding emergency medical services, and purchasing essential equipment for health care facilities.

Cultural Preservation

Financing the restoration of historical landmarks, museums, and archaeological sites across Santorini and neighboring islands.

Infrastructure

In 1982, the Foundation financed and constructed the Santorini Cable Car, donating it to the municipality and ensuring its profits go directly into social and cultural projects.

Today, every ride taken on the cable car contributes to these initiatives—making each journey part of a greater purpose.
